The leather repair set for steering wheels
contains all important utensils and high-quality materials for the preparation
and repair of black steering wheels. It is used to repair local scratches and
scuffs and to refresh the color. The set of the brand COLOURLOCK, manufactured
in Germany, in the LEDERZENTRUM, contains:
15 ml COLOURLOCK Leather Cleaner Mild15 ml COLOURLOCK Degreaser15 ml COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh Black15 ml COLOURLOCK Leather Shield 15 ml COLOURLOCK Elephant Leather Preserver1 x sanding padSponges and cloths
Steering wheels are in daily use. Due to frequent contact
with moisture, sunlight & creams they wear out quickly or become
greasy. Hand sweat and skin oils are particularly aggressive against the
leather. The reason: leather is an open-pored material into which hand
perspiration, skin fats and moisture can gradually soak. This makes the leather
brittle, the color softens and the leather rubs off. In some cases, cracks even
appear as a result of wear.
The COLOURLOCK leather repair set for black steering wheels
is the solution. The bestseller from Germany is now also available in the UK -
with an improved formula and solvent-free!
The COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh included in the set is used to
refresh the color. While the COLOURLOCK Cleaner Mild prevents damage, the
sealer protects the leather after recoloring. The COLOURLOCK Degreaser frees
the leather from excess grease. It is solvent-free and particularly
environmentally friendly. The COLOURLOCK Elephant Leather Grease cares for the
freshly dyed leather and gives the surface a natural shine.
Application:
Carefully mask off all areas of the steering wheel that
are not to be treated with COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh.Apply COLOURLOCK Leather Cleaner Mild to one of the enclosed
sponges and clean the steering wheel thoroughly. Then apply COLOURLOCK Degreaser to a cloth and go over the
surface to degrease the leather. Rough spots, scratches, abrasions or protruding leather
edges can now be smoothed with the COLOURLOCK Sanding Pad. The excess sanding
dust should then be removed with a cloth.Dab the COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh Dye Black carefully with the
sponge or apply it to the steering wheel in circular movements. Then allow to
dry completely or blow dry. This process can be repeated if necessary. After 24 hours, a thin layer of COLOURLOCK Elephant Leather Preserver can be applied. It cares for the steering wheel and gives the
leather a natural shine. The COLOURLOCK Elephant Leather Preserver is mostly used
for old steering wheels. This step can also be omitted for new steering wheels. After another 24 hours, put COLOURLOCK Leather Shield on
a cloth and apply it gently to the steering wheel to protect the surface from
new dirt and abrasions.
The Leather Sanding Pad is ideal for: Smoothing rough areas before applying COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh or COLOURLOCK Liquid Leather. Cleaning greasy areas on nubuck and suede. Careful sanding during professional colouring in the workshop. Amount: 1 piece. One pad is sufficient for a complete set of furniture or car interior.; Pack of 5 Application Rub the leather gently with the pad in a circular motion. Avoid gouging and deep scratches. Ideal for cleaning leather car and furniture upholstery, bags, suitcases or garments. The Leather Cleaner is provided in a foam dispenser bottle. Foams clean the leather more efficiently than liquid agents, the consumption is considerably smaller, and the leather does not become wet, which could otherwise become hard after drying.Firstly, clean the leather thoroughly before refreshing the colour or applying care products. Use COLOURLOCK Mild Leather Cleaner against normal soiling. Cleaning before treatment prevents the dirt sticking to the leather's surface. Our COLOURLOCK Leather Cleaning Brush effectively removes ingrained dirt (use circular motions and work from seam to seam). After cleaning, it is always best to apply a care product to protect it against general wear and future staining.Amount: 200 ml Mild Leather Cleaner. This is usually sufficient for the cleaning of a whole car interior or set of furniture.Amount: 1 litre Application of Leather CleanerAlways test any products first on a hidden area in case they affect the colour.Dispense some foam on a sponge or brush. Do not apply to the leather directly! Clean the leather from seam to seam using the foam; repeat several times, if necessary. Remove dirty foam residue with a slightly moistened piece of cloth, then allow to dry.On older leathers, stains might sink into the surface, or perceived dirt might actually be colour damage. Such stains cannot always be removed by cleaning, in which case, use COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh for refreshing the colour, or ask us for advice. These products are also suitable for "Cool Leather/SRT (SunReflective Technology) Leather"!
To maintain the surface, we recommend our Leather Protector. It contains antioxidants, which stops the leather's decay, and its UV filters protect the surfaces from colour fading and will make them supple once more.Amount: 150 ml. This is usually sufficient for the one-time treatment (minimum) of a complete car interior or a set of furniture.; 1litreApplication: Always test any products first on a hidden area in case they affect the colour!Use COLOURLOCK Leather Protector when the leather has dried completely from cleaning or colour refreshment, ideally on the following day. Apply with a soft cloth and let dry without polishing. One application is sufficient. Strained surfaces (heavy use or in sunlit areas) should be treated every three months. New leather should be treated with our Leather Shield within the first three years to protect it against traces of wear and abrasion, as well as discolouration from clothing. Application area: New pigmented or surface-coloured leather in cars, furniture, jackets and handbags. Do not use on porous leathers, suede or nubuck. Soiled leather should be thoroughly cleaned in advance. This prevents the dirt sticking to the leather when applying COLOURLOCK Leather Shield. Our COLOURLOCK Leather Cleaning Brush effectively removes ingrained dirt (use circular motion in all directions for better results). New leather should be treated with our COLOURLOCK Leather Shield within the first three years to protect it against traces of wear and abrasion, as well as discolouration from clothing (dye transfer). The driver's seat (entry bolsters of sports seats and high support cushions) usually begin showing typical signs of wear within the first three years. Leather Shield will prevent this. Treat the driver's seat every three months, the rest of the leather every six to twelve months. Additionally, steering wheels, armrests and shift knobs often suffer from hand sweat so avoid grease- or oil-based leather care. Instead these areas (except those that are old and dry) should be protected using COLOURLOCK Leather Shield. The amount is usually sufficient to treat a steering wheel, small parts or the most heavily strained entry bolsters several times. The Cleaner should only be applied to soiled areas. ApplicationAlways test all products first on a hidden area in case they affect the colour. COLOURLOCK Leather CleanerThe Leather Cleaner comes in a foam dispenser bottle. Degreaser
is used in various situations for degreasing. The degreaser is a solvent-free
product, yet powerful and gentle to the surface. It does not dissolve the color
and is therefore excellent for degreasing all types of leather.
Areas of
application:
for
degreasing smooth leather and removing care product residues before repair for
the professional and end user.
for
degreasing grease spots in the headrest and armrest areas of furniture,
steering wheels, handles and gear knobs on vehicles, handles on handbags and
suitcases, etc.for
cleaning/degreasing of "spackled" rough leathers in the furniture tradefor
degreasing greasy collars on jackets before washing with leather detergentfor
degreasing greasy areas before professional dyeing in the workshop
Amounts
of COLOURLOCK Degreaser:
30 ml is
enough for steering wheels or handbag handles.
150 ml
is sufficient for a furniture set or car interior.
250 ml
and 1 liter for more extensive degreasing work or for several objects.
APPLICATION
Always
test all products first on a concealed area for changes! Although COLOURLOCK
Degreaser does not dissolve colors, it may cause a lightening of colors in
open-pored leathers or if too much was used on smooth leather. Therefore,
pre-testing is always advisable.
Dampen a
clean, soft cloth with the degreaser and go over the greasy areas. Plain smooth
leathers can be degreased thoroughly after a test.
For open-pored
leather (suede, aniline leather, etc.), only briefly dart over the leather with
the cloth in order to avoid edging and stains caused by the cleaning attempt.
Allow
the leather to dry between all treatments. Do not blow dry.
Not all
grease spots can be removed completely. Areas of contact with skin or hair and
areas greased over long periods of time are particularly difficult. In some cases,
grease remover spray might help. For large areas, deeply absorbed oils, or
heavy greasing, seek professional advice.
After
cleaning with the COLOURLOCK Degreaser, re-condition and protect the leather
with a care product suitable for the type of leather.
Removes ballpoint pen marks and similar discolouration from pigmented top-grain leather.Ballpoint pen marks are not easy to remove from furniture and car
leather. If the mark is fresh, there is a better chance of cleaning it
off but, if it has been there for more than three days, the area will
have to be coloured.
ApplicationBefore starting to remove pen marks, first identify the type of leather. Incorrect cleaning methods can increase the damage. We distinguish between the following types of leather when cleaning stains and marks:Pigmented leather: Pigmented smooth leather is leather with a protective layer of paint on the surface. A drop of water rubbed in does not sink into the leather but rolls off. Pigmented leathers generally have a satin finish and a grained surface.Aniline leather is porous, smooth leather. A drop of water rubbed in will penetrate and darken the surface.Suede is the reverse side of a smooth leather or both sides of split leather.Nubuck is the sanded grain side of a smooth leather to create a soft, velvety effect.PU-Leather / Bycast leather / Bicast leather is a split leather (suede) with a grained film of polyurethane applied to the surface. Such leather is usually shiny with a plastic-like appearance. STROKES FROM BALLPOINT PENS STROKES FROM BALLPOINT PENS ON PIGMENTED LEATHER Ballpoint pen lines on furniture and car leather occur quite often. Unfortunately, these are not always easily removable. Please note the following: The fresher a ballpoint pen mark is, the easier it is to remove. When the ballpoint pen mark is older than three days, it is rarely possible to just clean and remove the mark. In most cases, this will have to be coloured. Whole drawings by children are much more difficult to remove than short lines. Cleaning attempts with the wrong products often increase the damage. Procedure: Always test first on a hidden area. Ideally, draw a line on this hidden area and clean vigorously, to give you an idea how effective it would be on the visible area. If it’s easy to clean, there should be no cause for concern. Some pens lose a lot of ink. To avoid spreading the ink, absorb the excess using masking tape. Next apply the Ballpoint Pen Remover. Press and hold the tip until it gets wet. Remove the ink stains with light circular movements, across a small radius and with little pressure. The liquid softens the area and dissolves the ink. Always remove dissolved ink with a cloth to avoid the stain spreading and clean the tip if necessary. The tip of the pen is designed to work on both sides so you can turn it upside down and re-insert, as required. Repeat the process and, if necessary, slightly increase the pressure. Older stains cannot be removed without damaging the leather’s colour so you will need to re-colour the affected area. Old ink stains tend to penetrate back out even after the leather is re-coloured. It is therefore essential to clean as thoroughly as possible prior to re-colouring. Sanding Pad can be tested too, as the surface is a sanded surface. Rub gently and work with extreme care and precision. Always work from seam to seam. If there is a danger of damaging the leather, stop, even if a light shadow remains. A colour repair is not possible. STROKES FROM BALLPOINT PENS ON PU LEATHER Most PU leathers (bycast/bicast leather) are dark and strokes from ballpoint pens are not so visible. Cleaning off the strokes risks damaging the foil on the suede. Always test on a hidden area first and don’t press or rub too hard. If there is a danger of damaging the leather, stop, even if the mark is visible. A colour repair is only possible if the leather is monochrome. STROKES FROM FIBRE PENS OR OTHER PENS AND INK STAINS STROKES AND SPOTS ON PIGMENTED LEATHER Ballpoint Pen Remover for pen lines. Where the pen strokes have smeared, use GLD Solvent. Cover any remaining traces with Leather Fresh then apply Leather Shield protector. STROKES AND SPOTS ON ANILINE LEATHER Aniline leather is very sensitive due to the open pores. Strokes and spots usually cannot be removed without the help of an expert. The risk of increasing the damage is very high. STROKES AND SPOTS ON SUEDE OR NUBUCK Cleaning does not provide the desired result as the ink sinks into the fibres. You can attempt to remove the discolouration very carefully with the Sanding Pad. Intensive colourations can’t be removed. Ask an expert for advice. STROKES AND SPOTS ON PU LEATHER The procedure is the same as for pigmented leather. Work carefully and test on a hidden area first. INK STAINS Lighter ink stains on pigmented leather can be removed in the same way as ballpoint pen marks on pigmented leather. GLD Solvent is the first choice. Follow the instructions for discolouration. When ink stains sink into smooth leather, only experts can help. Sometimes the ink can be absorbed as much as possible and be blocked before a re-colouration.Most ink stains on suede and nubuck can't be treated even by experts.
Leather Fresh is a colour refresher (dye) for scratches, worn, or faded leather. Leather Fresh is ideal to refresh colour damages on car leather, furniture leather, leather garments and handbags. Do not use on porous leathers unless colouring the entire surface - it can make the surface appear patchy. It can be sponged on or sprayed using an airbrush.
Application
Always test any products first on a hidden area to test for colour match!Firstly, clean the leather thoroughly and prepare the surface. Use Mild Leather Cleaner for normal degrees of soiling or Strong Leather Cleaner to remove heavier dirt (where the leather has been neglected for many years). Cleaning prior to treatment ensures the paint bonds to the surface well and ensures durability. Use Leather Cleaning Brush to effectively remove all ingrained dirt. Cleaning removes dirt but for long lasting results you should also de-grease using Degreaser.Use a sponge to apply the colour evenly, working from seam to seam. Dry afterwards with a hair dryer. On small spots, a one application is sufficient. Apply multiple thin layers and dry each layer using a hair dryer.A day later, after it dries, apply Leather Protector. It gives the leather a good sheen and helps blend the repair. It contains antioxidants, which stops the leather's decay, and its UV filters protect the surfaces of old and valuable leathers from bleaching and fading. Also keeps the leather supple.

Rep-Glue is is a very fine glue for upstanding fibres of cuts and impact damages. Unlike normal adhesives, Rep-Glue has no filling effect, which is important in repairing minor damages. The use of Rep-Glue saves a lot of time repairing upstanding fibres and edges.
Shake Rep-Glue before use and carefully apply the glue with the brush under the raised edges or fibres. Wipe the excess away and dry with a heat gun. Choose a fitting repair grain, heat the grain and press down the upstanding fibres back into the original position. To assure the durability of the repair with Rep-Glue, the repair has to be stabilised with Leather Colour and Top Coat. Leather Filler has to be used additionally if filling is required.
Fluid Leather is only recommended for damage where a filling is necessary. For scratches and general wear-and-tear on the colour surface we recommend smoothing the surface with the COLOURLOCK Leather Sanding Pad and refreshing the colour with COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh. The surface of COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather is smooth and shiny after drying. To hide the repair, apply COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh in the respective colour to the area. This covers the gloss of the COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather. Lightly dab the COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh several times with a sponge on the repair and dry with a hair dryer between layers until the desired covering is achieved. Degrease the repair area with COLOURLOCK Degreaser in order to remove care product residue. Before starting any repairs with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather, smooth rough areas and scratches with the COLOURLOCK Leather Sanding Pad For hardened leathers, use COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather before any treatment with COLOURLOCK Old Leather Softener. This oily treatment would reduce the adhesion of the COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather. PROCEDURE Fill the damaged areas with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather and spread evenly with a spatula. Leave to dry for 1-2 hours, depending on the amount used. Repeat the procedure until the repaired area is as full and smooth as possible. COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather cannot be sanded dry. This would damage the repair. We recommend using the COLOURLOCK GLD Solvent ND Pen to smooth the repair. The GLD Solvent slightly dissolves the surface of the COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather and provides a smoother finish.Open the lid of the COLOURLOCK GLD Solvent ND Pen and press down the felt tip several times until it is moistened. If the felt tip gets too moist, remove the excess quantity by cleaning it with a cloth. Smooth the repair area carefully with the moistened felt tip. When the repair area is wet with GLD, an additional treatment with the COLOURLOCK Leather Sanding Pad can be done to smooth the repair area. Always work with a small amount of GLD to prevent the repair area from becoming too dissolved. Using GLD, a repair can be adjusted to achieve the best possible result.Professionals can repair the graining on a work area using a Repair Grain. Usually, old leathers are smooth and do not need a new graining. The tip of the GLD Solvent ND Pen can be removed and reversed when worn. Especially when working on a new colour, it is necessary to change or turn the felt tip upside down. Finally, repairs with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather must be recoloured with COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh to balance differences in colour and gloss. In order to cover the COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather sufficiently, the COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh should be dabbed onto the area several times and dried between the layers with a hair dryer. After 24 hours treat the leather with Leather Protector. A HOLE WITH MISSING LEATHER Holes should be reinforced before repairing by gluing a thin piece of cloth underneath the hole with COLOURLOCK Leather Glue. Cut out a small piece of the original leather from a hidden area and adjust its shape according to the hole. Use the COLOURLOCK Leather Glue to glue it onto the piece of cloth and the edges of the hole. Close the visible rims with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather. Leathers with big tears must first be examined in order to decide whether it would be better to replace the weak leather. Especially long tears in old and rough leathers, or in areas of high use, are often irreparable or not durable enough after a repair. We recommend the repair of tears only on stable leathers and only if the tear is no larger than a few centimetres.Procedure: Minor tears which are not under tension should be provisionally glued with COLOURLOCK Leather Glue from edge to edge. Then close the tear with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather, as explained.Tears under high tension should be backed by thin cloth. In the case of very large tears and/or very rough leathers, it is advisable to sew the leather with a thin but strong thread. Place a seam every 3-4 centimetres with the starting knot on the leather's reverse. Cover the thread with COLOURLOCK Fluid Leather. If the leather is not too rough, drill a small hole to the right and the left of the tear (approximately 2-3 millimetres) and sew with a round needle. Lay the knot underneath and pull the tear together. Tears in areas of frequent use should always be replaced by new leather when they are too large; the same is true for weak or hardened leathers. In cases like these, it is more advisable to replace the leather.
Leather Glue Repair Kit is ideal for repairing minor damages like rips, tears and holes on leather. The Glue is suitable for use on leather & suede.PLEASE NOTE: Damages which have a hole or leather missing will need to be filled with COLOURLOCK Liquid leather and coloured using COLOURLOCK Leather Fresh dye available in 30ml or 150ml.

Heavily soiled surfaces become clean again. Use the soft brush contained in the set to clean grained surfaces. The Artificial Leather Protector seals the surface, without adding gloss, reducing the chance of attracting fresh dirt and bleaching and guards against brittleness. ApplicationAlways test any products first on a hidden area in case they affect the colour. Artificial Leather Cleaner: Apply the cleaner on a slightly moistened sponge and press the foam out of it. Clean the leather with the foam. Use the Cleaning Brush to remove dirt from the grain. Soak up the dirty foam residue with a slightly moistened and clean piece of cloth. The Leather Glue is suitable to permanently glue all forms of leather and remains flexible. It's perfect for repairing small rips and tears in general repair work like sticking backlining cloths. Easy to glue hems on suede and leather clothing.Application
Remove the pointed cap from the tube and apply a thin layer of glue. If required, spread with a spatula. Wait for a short while, then let the rips dry edge to edge, or glue the back lining - if possible - using pressure.
Those larger rips and holes in leather which are still repairable must be stabilized by back lining them with cloth. Cut the cloth into the required shape and mark the centre with a felt tip pen or a small sticker. The marking helps you to recognize the centre in order to ensure consistent overlapping. Fix the centre with a needle and spread the edges evenly under the leather with a spatula. Then stick with glue.
Garment leather is often very delicate. Apply the product especially thinly in order to avoid the glue coming through and showing as a dark spot on the leather's surface.
